Hello! And welcome to my self-titled online magazine Paul Verhoeven.
A little bit about me, after all, anytime you come across anything that is self-titled, the name must mean something. So for me, this is what you need to know. I am a Dutch film director, screenwriter and producer who has had an illustrious career, having had the opportunity to produce a number of award-winning films both in the Netherlands as well as the United States of America.
Films under my belt include Turkish Delight produced in 1977, Robocop produced in 1987, Total Recall produced in 1990,Basic Instinct produced in 1992, Showgirls produced in 1995, among many others. Courtesy of these films, I have been privileged to win numerous awards such as the Best Dutch Film Award at the Holland Film Festival in 1977 for Turkish Delight, the Saturn Award for Best Director in 1987 for Robocop, and in 2006 received a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Language Film for Dutch Black Book.
As a film director, I’m among the few who are open to criticism and I displayed this quality when I accepted an award for the worst film ever made, for the film Showgirlsin 1995. This is despite the fact that this went on to become a very popular film in 1990’s grossing millions of dollars. Talk about irony.
Well, this magazine is not about me, it’s about making you a successful film director through sharing my expertise, experience and knowledge on film making that I have learnt over the years and I believe it’s time to hand over the baton to budding film directors.
I welcome you to take this exciting journey with me.
